![]() This means that a second clone would effectively become a copy of whatever progenitor mimic is currently copying (and will include the token-creating effect as part of the copying). On the other hand, if progenitor mimic is on the battlefield, its copy effect will overwrite what's printed on the card as far as the game is concerned. But there is nothing in the game rules that actually prevent this from working if you copy something that isn't currently a copy of something else (or if you copy a copy that somehow still has a copy ability).īody Double can mimic a metamorph in the graveyard and end up being a Sol Ring, because while it's in the graveyard the metamorph's copiable values are just whatever its printed values are. For something on the battlefield, those are whatever the clone is currently a copy of, which typically means you don't have the opportunity to apply a "second round" of copying. Cloning a clone gives you whatever the copiable values of the clone currently are. ![]() Point 2 is not generally correct (although for practical purposes it usually is). Am I missing some important detail, or is whoever originated this information wrong? Therefore, it seems like if you try this, you should simply getting a pair of mana rocks, instead of infinite army of dragons. Or a Body Double can’t mimic a dead Phyrexian Metamorph to become a Sol Ring, you’d just have 0/0 Phyrexian shapeshifter if you tried. So, for instance, Progenitor Mimic gives you another copy of whatever it is each upkeep, instead of enabling you to make a copy of anything every turn. All Categories Magic: The Gathering Commander 2021 Cursed Mirror (Extended Art) Cursed Mirror (Extended. As cursed Mirror enters the battlefield, you may have it become a copy of any creature on the battlefield until end of turn, except it has haste. You instead get whatever the clone currently is. 57 listings on TCGplayer for Cursed Mirror (Extended Art) - Magic: The Gathering - T: Add R. Minor point, but still.Ĭloning a clone does not give you an opportunity to re-clone. To the best of my knowledge, the following are all true:Ĭloning effect are replacement affects, not triggered abilities. However, to the best of my understanding as to how cloning clones work, this shouldn’t actually work. To preface, here’s a link to a website about combos to explain: Like I said not a bad card just caught between this weird spot and being red.Ĭopy/Theft decks are generally blue and have tons of 3 cmc cards you are competing against in that slot.Alright, I’ve seen several places, both in person and online claiming this, but something doesn’t sit right with me. In a higher power meta I need it to generate a ton of value and you are fighting against a 2 drop ] in the decks that are looking to copy a card they are looking to copy value engines or dockside and it is 2 cmc. Is the card good yes but it is not great so the lack of hype and at higher levels since it is only until end of turn. I have a yasova deck that steals stuff so copying a creature that steals stuff and then leaves ramp behind is great. Xenagos as some mentioned is a prime example Purphoros decks get triggers. The issue is you need a deck that can benefit or profit from it even if your opponents don't have much on their side. This card is kind of in a weird spot and that is the three mana cost for the copy and only until end of turn for 3 mana. But against 3-mana rocks, only a few really beat it even if you don't make great use of the copy ability - like ] or ], or ] in a 3+ color deck. Personally I think it'd be best considered as "one of the best 3-mana rocks as long as red is a significant color in your deck." It can't and shouldn't be considered as a replacement to land ramp - especially not 2 mana land ramp - in most decks, and also will only compete with 2 mana rocks in very specific decks that can make big use of its copy ability. Obviously if it works for you it works, but the difference between 2 mana land ramp and 3 mana artifact ramp is huge. Cursed Mirror being 3 mana, having a huge chunk of its utility be tied to the creature copy aspect, and not being land makes it drastically different. Into the North is Rampant Growth for snow, aka it's a really good turn 2/2 mana land ramp if you run mostly snow lands. I wouldn't say Into the North and the mirror are similar whatsoever.
